Users in accelQ are created and managed at Tenant level and are identified by the email address used during the time of user registration. Once created, you can assign access to one or more projects for each user account.
User Types on accelQ
In accelQ, there are 3 types of users based on Administrative privileges.
Tenant Admin
A Tenant Admin has privileges across the entire tenant. A Tenant refers to a subscription or an organization.
- Can globally administer tenant setup, projects and users.
- Only a tenant admin can assign another user as a tenant admin. There can be one or more Tenant Admins at any given point.
- Can assign users to all projects on the system.
- A Tenant Admin account is created for you when the Tenant schema is created.
- Tenant admin can setup and configure Roles
Project Admin
A Project Admin can manage configuration for a specific project.
- A Project Admin cannot create new users.
- Can assign other users to the Project and designate as Project Admins.
- Setup and configure Custom Fields
- Setup App environments and Status list.
- A Tenant Admin is by default, a Project Admin for all projects on the Tenant.
Project User
This user does not have any administrative privileges. A Project user can access test assets belonging to the projects assigned. On each project, a user can be assigned a different Role, which defines access permissions to various types of test assets such as Action, Scenarios etc.
Administrative privilege is indicated in the profile card, as below:
Create New User
Follow these steps to create and setup new user on accelQ
- Login with a Tenant Admin user and click on the gear icon in the left menu bar.
- Click on Manage Users section link and click + New User button in the right side.
- Provide the email address, first name and last name. Assign one of the available licenses.
- Make sure the email address is valid and correct. Once created, you cannot change the email address.
- If SSO is configured for your Tenant
- Choose between accelQ and SSO authentication.
- If SSO authentication is selected, provide SSO User ID (optional). More about SSO configuration.
- Once the user is created, Project listing screen is displayed. For each project on the tenant,
- Select if the user will have access to the project
- Role with which access is granted.
- Indicate if Project Admin privilege is desired.
- An automated email is generated to the newly created user with instructions to set the password and start working.
User Management as Tenant Admin
- Login as Tenant Admin and click on gear icon to open Configuration window.
- Click on Manage Users section link in left-nav.
- Search for the user and right click on the grid row for following user management controls:
- Update Project access: Change projects as well as Roles and Admin privilege against each project.
- Note: A Tenant Admin always maintains access to all projects as Project Admin. This cannot be changed.
- Set password: Use this as a work-around in case the user does not have access to reset password through Forgot Password functionality.
- Grant / Revoke Tenant Admin privilege
- Delete User
- Edit Profile
- Change License Assignment (SME to PRO or vice versa)
- Update Project access: Change projects as well as Roles and Admin privilege against each project.
Managing current User Sessions
From the User grid for a Tenant Admin, you can view the currently logged in users. You can also terminate a user session if required. You can also apply filter on the grid to filter the currently active user sessions.
Right-click on the User row and select "Terminate User Session"
User Management as Project Admin
As a Project Admin, you can add or remove a user from Project access. Note: You cannot create or delete a user as a Project Admin.
You can also assign or revoke Project Admin privilege and can update the Role for a given user on the Project.
- Login as Project Admin and click on gear icon to open Configuration window.
- Click on User Setup section link in left-nav.
- Search for the user and right click on the grid row for following user management controls:
- Change Role
- Grant / Revoke Project Admin privilege: Note that a Tenant Admin always maintains Project Admin privilege and this cannot be revoked.
- Remove Access: Note that a Tenant Admin cannot be removed from a Project.
