The ACCELQ Electron Recorder brings the record-and-validate development experience to desktop applications built on the Electron framework, the technology behind tools like VS Code, Slack, and many enterprise desktop clients. The application runs and is mirrored directly inside your workspace, next to the Logic Editor, and you automate it exactly the way you automate a web application. Because Electron apps render web content under the hood, ACCELQ identifies their elements as web elements: the same commands, the same identification strategies, the same skills you already have.
What You Can Do with the Electron Recorder
- Record with the full mode set. OFF, Fluid, and Intent all apply. Use the application naturally in Fluid and let ACCELQ write the statements, or right-click deliberately in Intent for verifications, waits, and reusable Actions. See Recording Fundamentals.
- Use the web command library. Elements in an Electron app are recognized as web elements, so the entire web command set is available: clicking, text entry, JavaScript execution, property verifications, and the rest.
- Identify elements the web way. Locator-Free and Smart Locator both apply, with the same per-step [L/O] choice and project preference behavior. See Locator-Free and Smart Locator.
- Validate as you build. Auto Playback and the full Playback experience run on the live application. See Playback and Validation.
- Combine with other application types. Electron statements coexist with web, mobile, and PDF statements in the same logic, for end-to-end desktop-inclusive flows. See Multi-Modal Automation.
Prerequisites
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| ACCELQ Agent | Running locally. The application launches on the Agent machine. |
| Application | The Electron application installed on the Agent machine, with the path to its executable at hand. |
Launching the Application
In the Recorder panel's icon rail, choose the Electron Recorder and click Browse. The Electron App dialog asks for:
- The path to the application's executable file, the full path including the executable name.
- Custom scale for Recorder Rendering (optional, default 1). A screen scaling factor that keeps your mouse position and the mirrored application aligned. Leave it at 1 unless you notice hover misalignment in the recorder; the right value depends on the machine's display scaling, so coordinate with your team if adjustment is needed.
Click Proceed and the application launches, mirrored in the recorder, with its name shown in the application bar. An Initialize Electron app statement is recorded with the executable path and a session name, so your logic launches the application the same way at execution time; like browser sessions, Electron sessions are named, enabling multiple applications in one flow (see Browser Tabs and Multiple Sessions for the session model).
To switch to a different Electron application during the session, use the folder icon in the application bar.
Recording on the Application
Everything works as it does in the browser:
- Fluid captures your clicks, text entries, and selections automatically as you use the application.
- Intent records through the right-click menu: element identification in the header, ELEMENT and SMART FORMS options, and the Commands and Actions tabs, with the web command list for the hovered element.
- OFF lets you navigate and set up state without recording.
Since the elements are web elements, everything in Fluid and Intent in the Browser and Locator-Free and Smart Locator applies as written; those articles are your depth references for recording behavior and identification.
Where to Go Next
- Recording Fundamentals for modes and the right-click menu
- Fluid and Intent in the Browser and Locator-Free and Smart Locator for the recording and identification depth that applies here
- Playback and Validation for running and troubleshooting your statements
- Multi-Modal Automation for flows spanning desktop, web, mobile, and PDF
