Web Recorder Overview

The ACCELQ Web Recorder is where you develop test automation for your web applications. It embeds a real Chrome or Edge browser directly inside your ACCELQ workspace, next to the Logic Editor. You load your application in this browser and build automation by using it: clicking, typing, and navigating as a user would, while ACCELQ turns your interactions into automation statements. The same environment plays your logic back in the browser as you build, so every step is verified against the live application the moment you create it.

What You Can Do with the Web Recorder

• Build web test logic without code. Record in Fluid mode by simply using your application, or in Intent mode by right-clicking elements and choosing exactly the commands you want, including verifications, waits, and reusable Actions.
• Choose how elements are identified. Use Locator-Free identification, where an AI-detected label represents the element right in the statement with nothing to maintain, or Smart Locator, where elements are saved to the Element Repository with resilient, attribute-based identification. Set a project default and override it per element whenever you need to.
• Test responsive behavior without physical devices. Render your application at phone, tablet, or custom resolutions using device emulation, record and play back at those resolutions, and handle breakpoint-specific element differences with Element Instances.
• Automate multi-tab and multi-window flows. Switch between browser tabs as your application opens them, and drive multiple independent browser sessions for flows involving several users or applications at once.
• Validate and troubleshoot as you build. Auto Playback executes each statement in the browser as you complete it. Play back any portion of the logic, watch it run live, and troubleshoot failures with the application right in front of you.
• Configure the browser your way. Apply Custom Web Driver Profiles for browser flags, language, or cloud browser providers.
• Extend flows to mobile. Switch to the Mobile Recorder in the same panel to build end-to-end flows spanning desktop browser and mobile app.

Prerequisites

If the Agent is not running when you open the Web Recorder, you will see the prompt "Record/Playback requires a locally running Agent", with a Start Agent button, a refresh link, and installation instructions.

Opening the Web Recorder

The Web Recorder opens from within the Logic Editor, whether you have opened an Action directly or a Scenario in Design Studio. In the Recorder panel's icon rail, click the Globe icon. The embedded browser loads with a URL bar, navigation controls, and the recorder toolbar. Enter your application URL and you are ready to work.
